6 Myths About Frozen Foods

Frozen fruits and vegetables can be more useful, as they contain more vitamins and cancer-fighting antioxidants than fresh food.You can completely freely freese grapes and cheese, but do not do it with cucumber, hard-boiled eggs or ketchup. Below 6 myths about frozen foods that are dispelled by experts.

1. Frozen fruits are less healthy than fresh 

If we talk about apple, which you just got from the branches and eat, it is really much more useful than frozen. However, most of the fruits that we buy in shops and markets have gone through a very long shelf life, and they have lost most of their beneficial properties. As for frozen fruits, they undergo this procedure directly after harvest, what makes them much more useful.

2. Raw frozen foods must not be frozen again after cooking

If you thawed chicken wings, cooked them, and after dinner, you have a few extra servings, you can safely freeze them again. It's only a matter of quality, because the double-frozen food will not be as tasty as fresh-cooked, but it doesn't threaten your health.

3. Products with expiring date shoudn't be frozen

Another popular myth that is the cause of big amount of food that is thrown out. If you buy a piece of beef in a supermarket, then nothing prevents you to freeze it, even if the shelf life of the meat ends.

4. You shouldn't freeze cheese or milk 

It seems rather strange habit to put favorite piece of Roquefort cheese or cheddar in the freezer, but there is absolutely no risk. Dairy products are subjected to freeze completely free, although it does not apply to soft cheeses. Of course, you should not expect that thawed cheese will be as delicious as fresh.

5. Food must be eaten within three months after freezing

Fortunately, this is another common myth. There are many products that are recommended to eat for three months, but this is only their flavors and nutritional properties, and not for health and safety. Many foods can be stored for years in a frozen state.

6. Frozen foods can be stored anywhere in the refrigerator

This is partly true, but if there are some of the products you want to keep for more than few months, it would be wiser to put them to the far end of the freezer, where the temperature is lower.
