Features of the diet for patients with myocardial infarction caused by three periods of illness: acute (2-10 days), medium (2-8 weeks) and after infarct. Nutritional care of such patients is aimed at restoring processes in the myocardium and improve the functioning of the heart. Diet therapy is going to correct metabolic disorders and prevent atherosclerosis. It is important to prevent weight gain and abnormalities in the digestive system.

For patients with myocardial infarction is assigned diet in which reduced energy value of food, with a gradual increase of it, limited salt, animal fats, cholesterol, nitrogenous substances. This diet should be enriched with ascorbic acid, lipotropic substances, potassium salts. It usually excludes foods that contribute to flatulence (grapes, fruits with rough fiber, milk).

The diet recommends you consists of 3 options with different chemical composition and energy value.

In a first diet, meals should be wiped. It is usually appointed during the acute phase (first 7-8 days). Patients should have meal 6 times per day.

It is recommended to use such products: Wheat bread in the form of crackers, low-fat beef, veal, boiled chicken, perch, cod, steam scrambled eggs, milk drinks, low-fat cheese, butter and vegetable oils, cereals buckwheat, oats, semolina and rice cereals , fresh carrots, cauliflower and beets, pureed vegetable soups, honey, weak tea, broth hips, vegetable and fruit juices, coffee substitute. It is forbidden to use such products:

Pastry, cakes, pancakes, dumplings, cakes, pastries, fatty meats, bacon, smoked products, goose, duck, brain, ham, kidney, fried foods, canned food, caviar, salted and smoked fish, fried on the cool boiled eggs, cream, salt and pungent cheese, cooking oils, pasta, beans, tribe, turnips, sorrel, grape, chocolate, spices, organic coffee, carbonated drinks, grape and tomato juice.

The second type of diet is assigned for the 2-3th week after infarction with eating 5 times per day. The products are the same as in the diet type 1. Food should be cooked without salt, but not pureed.

3 type of diet is prescribed in the period of scarring (from the 4th week), a meal up to 5 times a day. It consists 2,500 calories per day. Liquids can be drunk up to 1 liter. Limit of salt intake to 3-5 g per day.

Diet is enriched with potassium salts that provide the contractile function of the myocardium and outputs fluid from the body. Potassium can be found in dried vegetables, fruits and berries (dried apricots, dried apricots, raisins, dates, prunes, etc.). However, some products (sorrel, lettuce, rhubarb, radish, gooseberries, blackcurrants, etc.) contains a lot of oxalic acids, which is not allowed to use for heart failure.
