“Pocket Lab” Aims to Diagnose Diseases For 10-20 Minutes

Diagnostic DNA analyzer with the size of a smartphone can replace the physical examination, which usually takes several weeks.

The gadget has already been nicknamed as the pocket laboratory. It can recognize cancer, for example, in 20 minutes, and TB in 10 min. First of all,  physicians should be equipped with these devices. The doctor who applies gadget to you, and after 10 minutes makes a diagnose and prescribes treatment - it sounds fantastic.WHO is planning to send these gadgets to doctors in Africa. However, there is a more audacious plan: to make it as affordable to operate, so that everyone could get an "electronic diagnostician." Portable unit Q-POC, working on a solar-powered, can analyze biological samples, which are placed in it by the tiny cartridge. Also, it works with sputum for the detection of respiratory diseases and swabs to detect infections that are sexually transmitted.Gadget differs from traditional diagnostic tools for the fact that it analyzes DNA viruses and bacteria, rather than proteins. Fluids pass through the pinhole, and then - through nano-filters. They do not allow DNA, keeping the rest, thereby isolating the molecule to be analyzed. The device also resets the information on your mobile phone, allowing to use the results of tests by patients and doctors at any time. In the future, it will help to continuously monitor the state of health and to notice attacking illness immediately.

The product is hoping to get at the beginning of 2018. The spectrum of diseases that the device identifies will be gradually expanded.
