7 Surprising Cold and Flu Nutrition Myths

Cold is certainly an unpleasant condition of the human body. When you have a cold, you feel tiredness, "weakness" and passivity. Certain food may help to cope with cold and flu, but only if you know the right facts and tips. And because the cold is a fairly common disease, it had overgrown with legends and myths, which we eventually follow, even without being sure of their truth.

The most famous nutritionists and dietitians tried to break the common nutrition myths about cold and flu. Look what they found.

→ Stick to juices and other fluids 

Juice is bad because it can raise your blood and it's better to replace it with fruits and veggies. But be sure to keep hydrating yourself to prevent dryness of mucous membranes in the nose and throat. Softening mucous, you contribute to the separation of sputum. Choose only healthy and natural fluids, not with concentrated sugar.

→ Avoid milk when you are sick

 When you are suffering from a sore throat, usually it is easier to drink your calories than eat them. Milk is a high-protein product which will feed you pretty well and soothe your sore throat. By the way, has found no medical reasons to avoid dairy.

Tea with honey is the best medicine in the world 

Nutritionists recommend skipping the honey as our tea won't hydrate us enough and it is much better to eat chicken soup instead which will hydrate you even more.

→ Alcohol will defeat any cold 

The main proponents of this myth - men. You can hear a lot of recipes, with what and how to use a portion of the alcohol to get rid of all of the first signs of the disease.The virus usually spreads via the respiratory tract, and alcohol has contact with the oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract.

→ Vitamin C can cure a cold

Vitamin C is only important is you are deficient in it, but not many of us are. And even you take a vitamin C supplement, you should follow a balanced diet with other nutrients.

→ Treatment of flu and cold require high-calorie diet

In some cases, it triggered a stereotype that for the recovery you need a high-calorie diet. But let's not confuse a cold with postoperative and post-traumatic recovery periods. Even the soup should be relatively easy to prepare, and from dietary meat.  There is no reason to focus on sausages and smoked food.

→ Taking multivitamin will prevent you from getting sick

 It is not obviously true. The best methods to avoid flu and cold are washing your hands, contacting sick people less and getting enough sleep.
