Working in Retirement May Extend Your Lifespan
Having reached retirement age, it is not necessary to stop the work. Specialists of Arizona State University and Oregon (USA) found that working seniors have a higher life expectancy. Could work really be more useful than rest?
US scientists used data from a prospective Health and Retirement Study, in which the health of 2,956 volunteers was observed from 1992 to 2010. In 1934 members, a health was not the defining reason for stopping of work, so they were attributed to a group of healthy people. Accordingly, in the group of not-healthy ones were 1022 people.
During the study, in the group of healthy people died 234 participants (12%), and in the group of not healthy people - 262 (25.6%). But the interesting thing is that by extending their career only a year, healthy participants were able to reduce the risk of premature death by as much as 11%. In the group of patients, it worked with the same regularity.Scientists have stated that early retirement may cause damage to health and increases the risk of premature death, but the moderate labor, on the contrary, is able to prolong life.Working in retirement may be useful not only in terms of economic and social benefits, but simply because a routine activity stimulates the elderly person to move more, communicate and maintain a healthy body.
