20-Minute Exercise May Boost Your Brain as Cup of Coffee

A new, first-of-its-kind study, performed by researchers from Western University in Ontario, Canada, suggests that just a 20-minute exercise is as good as a cup of coffee for the working memory.

To check this, a team of the researchers used an n-back test resembling the card game pairs or snap where the aim is to spot repetition of items appearing in succession. The scientists randomly assigned participants either to a coffee group or an exercise group.

Having compared the received results, the scientists concluded that both exercise and caffeine had a similar effect on the working memory. The improvements were similar after spending 20 minutes on a treadmill and consuming a single serving of caffeine.
