Binge Watching TV Could Kill You, Japanese Study Says

Binge watching TV programmes can raise the risk of dying from a blood clot in the lungs, according to the Japanese scientists.binge watching

The researchers studied watching habits of 86,000 people between 1988 and 1990 and then monitored their health during the next nineteen years.

They concluded that every extra two hours in front of the TV set on a daily basis has increased the risk of fatal pulmonary embolism by 40%. Binge watching TV programmes for five hours and more every day can double people’s chances to die compared to those who watch less than 2.5 hours a day.

Co-author Dr Toru Shirakawa from Osaka University says: “Nowadays, with online video streaming, the term ‘binge-watching’ to describe viewing multiple episodes of television programmes in one sitting has become more popular.”
