Chronic Sleep Deprivation Can Lead to Depression in Adolescents

A new study, led by researchers from the University of Ottawa, Canada, suggests that chronic sleep deprivation can lead to depression in adolescents, both male and female. Chronic Sleep Deprivation Can Lead to Depression in Adolescents

For their study, the scientists used a mouse model with the help of which they investigated whether constant sleep delays differently affected male and female adolescent mice and examined how mice responded to the levels of stress.

The researchers write in their paper: "Our results showed that adolescent male and female mice both displayed significantly greater depressive behavior after only 7 days of sleep delays while adult male and female mice did not show depressive behavior under similar conditions."
