Eating Dark Leafy Greens Is Good for Children’s Brain

According to researchers from the University of Pennsylvania, iron found in dark leafy greens may help boost the brains of children.

For the study, a team of scientists measured iron levels in the brain of 1,500 children and young adults whose age was between 8 and 24 years. The analysis of the received data showed that participants deficient in iron showed worse performance in tasks with reasoning and spatial processing.

The study author Dr. Bart Larsen says that the results suggest children should be having iron supplements until they reach their mid-20s.

To the foods with high levels of iron belong dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach, broccoli and watercress, as well as lentils, beans, nuts and seeds.
