Compounds Found in Grapes Can Help Treat Depression

A new study reveals the mechanism by which grape compounds improved resilience to stress in mice and ease the brain changes associated with depression.grapes may treat depression

For their study, a team of researchers tested the effect of the mix of three polyphenols derived from grapes on a mouse model. The study demonstrates the mechanisms of how the two new phytochemicals reduce levels of a pro-inflammatory substance and how the other intervenes epigenetically to raise the expression of genes, which, in turn, promotes synaptic plasticity.

First study author Jun Wang, Ph.D., explains: “Our research shows that combination treatment with the two compounds can promote resilience against stress0mediated depression-like phenotypes by modulating systemic inflammatory responses and brain synaptic plasticity in a mouse model of depression.”
