Men Will Be Able to Carry Out Own Babies in 5-10 Years
To such conclusions scientists came after they carried out a successful operation of transplantion of woman's uterus. In their view, such measures can be operable to hold for men in the foreseeable future. Needless to say, that there is no possibility to have natural childbirth. In this case, a cesarean section will be appropriate.
It may sound far-fetched, but according to Dr. Karine Chung, director of the fertility preservation program at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine, it’s right around the corner.
At the moment, scientists are doing only theoretical work in this direction. It is assumed that such operations will be carried out with young men only, not older than 35 years. This is because before operation it is necessary to go through a long training course, which consists taking hormones. It should be noted that the hormonal therapy will be used after the uterus transplant. The ability to conceive a child, with a successful operation, occurs already after 7-8 months. However, it is too early to make any accurate predictions as no practical research in this area has been conducted yet.
Scientists note that in last 5 years abdominal surgery has leaped forward, so conducting such operations it is only a matter of time. According to doctors, the adaptation of uterus in abdomen in men will be held without rejection. At the moment, scientists are studying possible changes in hormonal levels in men and development of a child in male body.
If such operations will be successful, it will give an opportunity for many couples to have an own child, without using of expensive IVF or donor sperm. However, it is understood that a uterus transplantion process is irreversible and will require a careful preparation.
