Only Ten Minutes of Running Can Boost Brain Processing

Recent research by scientists from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, suggests that as much as ten minutes of moderate-intensity running increases local blood flow to the various loci in the brain, namely in the bilateral prefrontal cortex. These findings may help develop a wider range of treatment recommendations for mental health conditions.Only Ten Minutes of Running Can Boost Brain Processing

For their study, the team of researchers used the Stroop Color-Word Test and received data on hemodynamic changes associated with brain activity while participants were engaged in completing various tasks.

The analysis of the received data showed that after ten minutes of moderate-intensity running, there was a significant reduction in Stroop interference effect time. Moreover, bilateral prefrontal activation had significantly increased during the Stroop task and all participants reported a better mood.
