Recent research from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, suggests that people playing in a brass band may experience benefits for their mental and physical health thanks to playing the instrument and the feeling of inclusion in a group.Playing in a Brass Band Linked to Mental and Physical Health Benefits

For the study, the researchers analyzed detailed surveys completed by 346 adults playing in brass bands. The questionnaires included questions on how participants perceived their own physical and psychological health, their social, emotional, and spiritual well-being beginning from the period they started playing in a band.

Having completed the analysis of the received surveys, the scientists concluded that playing in a brass band improved breath control, expanded lung capacity and improved symptoms of respiratory conditions.
