A Compound in Strawberries Can Help Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease

A new research from the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, US, discovered that treating mouse models of aging with fisetin, a compound found in strawberries, apples, persimmons, onions and other fruits and vegetables, led to a reduction in cognitive decline and brain inflammation.strawberries can help against Alzheimer's

In the course of the study, the researchers found that th10-month-old mice that did not receive showed an increase in markers associated with stress and inflammation. They performed much worse in cognitive tests than mice that consumed fisetin.

Senior author of the study Pamela Maher says: “Based on our ongoing work, we think fisetin might be helpful as a preventive for many age-associated neurodegenerative diseases, not just Alzheimer’s, and we’d like to encourage a more rigorous study of it.”
