Top Foods that Help Increase Levels of Testosterone
Testosterone is an important hormone that plays a crucial role in normal body function, namely it helps maintain bone and muscle strength, determines hair growth, makes sperm, maintains sex drive and erections, helps make red blood cells, and even boosts energy and mood.
According to Aileen Birkitt, a registered dietician, quite a few foods can help increase testosterone levels. Such foods should be rich in zinc, vitamin D, selenium, and magnesium. Here they are:
Zinc-rich foods:
- Oysters
- Salmon, tuna, and mackerel
- Crab and lobster
- Lentils, chickpeas, and black beans
Vitamin D-rich foods:
- Fortified cereals
- Eggs (specifically the yolks)
- Low-fat milk
- Fortified orange juice
- Fortified plant-based milk, like soy, rice or oat milk
Foods rich in magnesium include leafy greens like spinach and kale. Brazil nuts and other nuts contain plenty of selenium, which can help as well.
