Using Humidifier at Home May Cut the Risk of Contracting COVID-19

Respiratory viruses love winter as it is easier for them to spread in dry air. The lower the relative humidity, the easier it is for viruses, including the coronavirus, to go from one host to another. That is why researchers from Virginia Tech University recommend using a humidifier at home.Using Humidifier at Home May Cut the Risk of Contracting COVID-19That happens because coronavirus particles in drier and less humid air absorb less moisture and therefore remain for a more extended period of time in the air, which makes them more likely to be inhaled and infect someone new.The researchers advise: "You could invest in a humidifier and set it to keep the humidity above 40 percent but below 60 percent in the wintertime. The virus doesn't survive as well under these conditions, and your immune response works better than when the air is dry."
