Anaesthesia in Early Childhood Linked to Poorer Intelligence Later

The largest study of its kind, executed by the team of researchers from Karolinska Institute, Sweden, finds that anaesthesia in early childhood increases the risk of poorer intelligence later.poorer intelligence

The study included around 200,000 teens from Sweden. School grades were marginally lower in those kids who had one or more surgeries with anaesthesia before age 4 compared with the children who hadn’t anaesthesia in that age.

The authors of the study and other doctors say that harms from postponing surgery have to be considered for evaluation of any potential risks from anaesthesia in young kids.
