Quick Cancer Test Can Identify Mutations in the Cells 10 Years Before aTumor Appears

A blood test will help detect cancer 10 years before the onset of symptoms. The projected release date of the test in the mass market – in 5 years.

Swansea University experts found that mutations occuring in erythrocytes, are the first sign of cancer and appear long before any visible symptoms of the disease. Scientists have developed a simple test that detects mutations, and may indicate the presence of cancerous mutations in a few hours.

The first test trials were conducted on patients suffering from esophageal cancer. However, scientists believe – testing of patients with other types of cancer will be also successful. The test can be compared with a detector of mutations – smoke does not always indicates a fire, but it is a clear indication of danger so a mutation suggests that there are sensitive areas in body.
