In the next ten years, the founder of social networking site Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan are going to donate more than $3 billion on health research.
Chan noted that human knowledge about body and diseases is still quite limited. Expanding horizons will reduce human suffering. Zuckerberg added that at least four kinds of diseases: cancer, heart diseases, infectious and neurological diseases are causes of death. He believes that with the correct techniques, we can make progress in all these areas.
The first $ 600 million will be used to finance medical research center Biohub, which will be created through a partnership with the Stanford University, the University of California in San Francisco and the University in Berkeley.
