According to a recent study, published in the journal Molecular Nutrition & Food Research, mango which contains fiber and polyphenols may help in the treatment of digestive problems such as constipation and gut inflammation more effectively than other fruits.
For the study, a team of researchers recruited 36 men and women with chronic constipation who were divided into two groups. Members of the first group were given a daily dose of 300 grams of mango, members of the second group were given another fruit. Mango also helped improve the make-up bacteria and reduced inflammation.
Co-author Professor Susanne Mertens-Talcott from Texas A&M University says: “Our findings suggest mango offers an advantage over fiber supplements.”
