Scientist Found Region in the Brain Responding to Placebo

Researchers claim they’ve found a region in the brain that associated with the placebo effect. This effect occurs when a fake therapy leads to a significant health-related improvement.placebo

Authors of the study believe that these findings can improve treatments for many people around the world who suffer from chronic pain. With the help of a new type of MRI developed for the study, the researchers identified a region in the brain that responds to a placebo.

Vania Apkarian, a professor of physiology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago and a study co-author, says: “The new technology will allow physicians to see what part of the brain is activated during an individual’s pain and choose the specific drug to target this spot.”
