Scientists from Tel Aviv University, Israel, discovered a new mechanism causing cancerous cells to kill themselves off. They say that it could be very effective for aggressive forms of the condition, like pancreatic cancer.
The researchers observed this effect in cancer cell cultures and human cancer cells transplanted into mice. The next task for the scientists is to find out whether this mechanism works in the human body.
Malka Cohen-Armon, a lead researcher of the study, explains: “The discovery of an exclusive mechanism that kills cancer cells without impairing healthy cells, and the fact that this mechanism works on a variety of rapidly proliferating human cancer cells, is very exciting.”
