Newly Created Surgical Robot Surpassed Human

Individual STAR device (Smart Tissue Autonomous Robot) consists of a robotic arm and an automated instrument for the application of sutures. The robot is also equipped with an infrared 3D-image system that provides a clear path of action, and sensor system – for example, to ensure that the seams will not be too tight or conversely, weak, reports Financial Times.

Experts from the National Children’s Washington tested the STAR health system on pigs, because of the similarity in the arrangement of their internal organs with human.
During the expiriment they conducted an enteroenterostomy (recovery of the digestive tract) – the usual surgical procedure when the tumor is removed.

One of the medical specialists involved in the project Peter Kim said that the results have been amazing, the performance of STAR  was consistently better than did surgeons. According to him, even though the robot is made to work in offline mode, surgen is able to connect to the manipulation at any time.

According to experts, the robot will be in demand in such operations as appendicitis and gallbladder removal. The project is going to be invloved in clinical trial in about three years.
