Sleep Disorder Can Be a Sign for Developing Alzheimer’s Disease

A new study, published in Neurology, finds a link between a sleep disorder and Alzheimer’s disease.sleep disorder

For the study, a team of researchers examined 101 people. They all were deemed at risk of developing the disease either due to a parent with this condition or they had the apolipropotein E gene.

The study found that people who were sleepy throughout the day, had poor sleep quality, or experienced other sleep issues had more biological markers for the Alzheimer’s disease.

Co-author of the study Dr. Barbara Bendlin, Ph. D., of the University of Wisconsin-Medison, concludes: “It may be possible that early intervention for people at risk of Alzheimer’s disease may prevent or delay the onset of the disease.”
