Married People Are More Likely to Survive a Heart Attack

A new study from the UK suggests that married people are more likely to survive a heart attack and leave the hospital sooner compared to single people.heart attack

The researchers checked data of more than 25,000 patients with heart attack in England. They discovered that married people were 14% less likely to die compared to single people.

The results of the study also showed that married survivors usually spent 2 fewer days in the hospital.

Dr. Mike Knapton, associate medical director of the British Heart Foundation, said: “A heart attack can have both devastating physical and psychological effects – most of which are hidden from the outside world. These findings suggest the support offered by a spouse can have a beneficial effect on survivors, perhaps helping to minimize the impact of a condition.”
