Surgery Without Scars is Possible Now

For a long time, scientists and physicians from around the world are trying to deal with the formation of unsightly scars on the skin of patients after the surgery. However, employees of the University of Pennsylvania have figured out how to make the wounds to heal up without the formation of such defects on the skin. This innovation makes possible to conduct operations, including plastic surgery, without visible consequences.

During experiments, it was found that getting rid of scars can be achieved by converting the cells in the wound, in adipotsidy ie fat cells. In almost all cases, they are lost during the healing period and the appearance of the scar, but a healthy skin has many of them. During post surgery recovery a large number of myofibroblasts can be found at the wound site that contributes to scar tissue.

Scientists have decided to attempt to change the myofibroblasts, by converting them into fat cells, which in turn makes it possible to stop the process of scarring during healing. Specialists get a hold of the regeneration of hair follicles. Certain signals are going through them which carry out the restoration of fat cells in the skin.

Basing on these studies it was concluded that in the wound healing process the hair follicles develop first, which are the basis of transformation of myofibroblasts in the fat cells. In case of absence of follicles it is impossible to obtain such a component, and their presence increases the possibility that the wound will be tightened without a scar. Similar results in the near future will have a huge impact on the development of medicine and allow the patient to forget about unpleasant reminder of the surgery.
